I know, i know. It sounds gross doesn’t it? ‘Sweden’s politicians are slut spurting.’ However disgusting it might sound, it is exactly what they are doing.
With one week to go to the election, all the parties are in the final throws of their campaigning. In this final week, they try to get their message across by turning the gear up a bit. This final sprint to the finishing line is called a ‘slutspurt’ in Swedish. It’s often used to describe the final hurried days of a sale.
And it’s what they’re all doing.
They’re slut spurting on the tv, in the streets, in the media. It’ll be a relief when it’s all over I expect. That much spurting can’t be good for you.

Hi Neil,
Interesting blog!
2 points about the SD party:
1) The name SD traditionally stands for ‘Social democrat ‘ which this party is blatantly not.
2) These parties stir up fear of immigration or immigrants. Most rational people are actually more worried about issues such as jobs, housing, education for their children, transport, crime and access to good quality health-care. The rise of right-wing, populist parties across Europe and North America stirring up fear of migrants or the “other” (women , migrants, LGBT) , or the politics,m if fear, actually mask their true neo-liberal agenda: small government; weak public institutions; a complicit media; large powerful, monopolistic corporations, with little legal or fiscal scrutiny; with cheap, compliant uneducated work forces without access to collective bargaining, ie. total antithesis of social democracy & everthing the EU stands for . Our role, as true social democrats therefore has to be to counteract this irrational “fear” of the other by addressing the real needs behind the fears, by breaking them down.
