Because of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, many official buildings in Sweden are flying the Ukrainian flag in solidarity. The authorities want to show that Sweden stands side by side with Ukraine in their time of need.
The Ukrainian flag, like the Swedish flag, is yellow and blue. The Swedish flag is a yellow cross on a blue background. The Swedish flag was initiated in the early 1500’s and the yellow is said to represent gold and blue represent the sea. Sweden depicted itself as a wealthy sea-faring realm.
Psychologically, the blue represents justice, loyalty, truth, vigilance and perseverance. The yellow represents generosity.
The colours on the Ukrainian flag represent something else. The blue represents the sky, and the yellow represents the wheat fields that are so important to the country’s identity and economy. The flag was first hoisted in 1848.
On a psychological level , the yellow in the Ukrainian flag is said to represent joy and the blue represents calm.
I am sure we all hope that the people of Ukraine experience both again very soon.

Russia is actually trying to bring back under its egemony part of East eupean countries?

Thanks for your feedback Ricardo, I’m glad you enjoy what I write. Regarding NATO, it’s a complex question. Yes, Sweden be better protected but it would lose its freedom to decide own involvement in war and conflict. Additionally, it would make the Swedish tradition of neutrality difficult. So culturally, it makes sense to stay out of NATO.
Det är ett svårt val att göra. Står du för fred och neutralitet eller står du för fred och neutralitet om det överhuvudtaget är möjligt och sedan vara villig att stå tillsammans med andra nationer mot frågor som är större än ditt land? Jag är svensk av val och inte födsel. Jag vet att Sverige också hävdade neutralitet under andra världskriget, liksom Schweiz, inte var riktigt neutralt. Jag tror att det är skillnad. Svenskar står tillsammans som nation. Nu tror jag att Sverige behöver stå tillsammans med andra likasinnade nationer för att hjälpa till att försvara ett medland som har många av våra värderingar och som för närvarande överkörs av någon som inte är bunden av moraliska värderingar till en känsla av anständighet och demokrati. När valet att vara neutral gjordes var tiderna väldigt annorlunda. Världen var mycket mindre och agerandet på en plats som Ukraina påverkade egentligen inte Sverige så mycket. Tiderna är nu mycket annorlunda och kräver andra perspektiv och åtaganden. Vi bör vara flexibla. Vi borde leva efter några välgrundade principer snarare än många gamla regler. Det finns en skillnad här för oss att göra.
When Sweden was a superpower and “owned” Scandinavia, northern parts in Germany and Poland, the Baltic states and a piece of Russia, the Swedish king Karl XII was in Ukraine trying to free Ukraine from Russia. He lost the battle at Poltava but there’s still a village in Ukraine that is named Gammalsvenskby (Oldswedevillage) where they speak Swedish. Ukraine has statues of Karl XII. Sweden had the colours yellow and blue already in the 17th century so in a way Sweden inspired Ukraine to choose these colours. 🇸🇪🇺🇦
